We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Badges!

This badge was recovered recently by ITTHC member Juan Ortegon in the Tulsa area. This design was in use from the 1880’s to the 1920’s. It is L. Chase’s Tulsa County Oklahoma Constable’s badge. Could not find any information about “L. Chase” in Tulsa County on the internet. Have included with Juan’s badge a sample of a similar vintage from Van Buren Township Missouri. The samples found on the internet from different state’s townships & counties all had their state seal in the center. Juan’s badge would have probably had the State Seal of Oklahoma in the center. Have found non-dug samples of this vintage constable’s badges listing for as much as $600.00!

And here are a couple of 1909 photos of the Tulsa Police Force, not very good quality, but you can see that most of the officers are wearing a similar badge to Juan’s badge. The second photo was taken in front of the then police station at 2nd Street & Cheyenne.

Nice find Juan!
