Another Return to Sheppard Point!

The club outing to Sheppard Point Recreation Area at Heyburn Lake on Saturday, August 17th was an another good one. Weather was great with the high temperature for the outing hitting the 93° mark at 2:00pm & stayed mostly cloudy much of the time with lots of shade & a nice strong breeze for most the day. And the water was again exceptionally cool for the Heyburn Lake this time of summer. About as nice a day as you could get in the middle of August in Oklahoma.

The club supplied hamburgers, hot links, hot dogs, buns, condiments, & chips. Cody Reese handled the hot job of cooking this time around. Good job Cody and Thank You! And Thanks to Greg Wicks for transporting the club’s grill and bringing the tables. Greg is also storing the grill & tables at his place for the summer. Thanks to Bob Cook for running the 50-50 raffle, Wally Dick hit the jackpot of $24.00 in the 50-50 raffle. There were 26 members standing in line to chow down on burgers, hot dogs, & hot links supplied by the club and again the outstanding food assortment brought by club members. There were 36 hamburgers, 24 hot dogs, & 18 hot links consumed. Thanks again to all those bringing the great side dishes and desserts. And once again if you went away hungry at this outing, it was your own fault.

After the big feed there were scattered as evenly as possible 207 tokens in a 40 yards X 70 yards designated area. There were 23 tokens for member donated prizes, and 160 tokens for Silver Mercury dimes, 16 tokens for Silver quarters, and 8 tokens for Silver half dollars. When the start signal was given there were 18 water hunters frothing the water.

After 1 hour+ of hunting there were 21 Mercury Dime & 1 prize token not found. Do not know how 21 Mercury Dime tokens were missed. Tokens for Silver coins were painted Wheat Cents, painted aluminum pulltabs, painted & numbered .54 Gallagher Minie’ bullets, painted dug up Indian Cents, painted dug up Half Cent and painted Shield Nickels & V-Nickels. The ITTHC purchased $300.00 in silver coins for the outing.

Member donated prizes: 1944 Walking Liberty Half Dollar donated by Lloyd Coke won by Cody Reese. $5.00 donated by Bob Cook won by Lloyd Coke. 5 Silver Roosevelt Dimes donated by Wally Dick won by John Hamilton. $5.00 donated by Ken Fanning token not found. Some of the higher totals found were: Ken Fanning 15 Silver Mercury Dimes & 1 Silver Quarters, & 1 Silver Half Dollars. Lloyd Coke 7 Mercury Silver dimes, 2 Silver Quarter, 2 Silver Half Dollars & 3 prize tokens. Lee Wierzchowski 13 Mercury Dimes & 1 Silver Half Dollar. John Hamilton 10 Mercury Dimes, 1 Silver Quarters, 1 Silver Half Dollar & 1 prize token. Greg Wicks 11 Mercury Dimes, & 2 prize tokens. Chuck Marcum 8 Silver Mercury Dimes, 2 Silver Quarters, 1 Silver Half Dollar & 1 prize token. Cody Reese 7 Silver Mercury dimes, 2 Silver Quarters, 2 Silver Half Dollars & 1 prize token. Bill Rouse 10 Mercury Silver dimes & 2 Silver Quarters. Bob Cook 10 Mercury Dimes & 1 Silver Half Dollar.

And once again, one of the main reasons for this type of outing, besides the food of course, is also, the fun and fellowship of being with people that enjoy the same hobby. And to give non-water hunting members a chance to try their hand at it. There are always extra water detectors & scoops available for use, so if you have not tried water hunting come on out & try it, you might find you like it.

If you missed this outing, again you missed a good one. Don’t miss the next one!
